How to Use Self-Jacking Vehicle Recovery Skates Safely

Self-jacking vehicle recovery skates are useful tools for positioning vehicles in garages, workshops, and storage areas. However, understanding how to operate them correctly is essential for achieving reliable results while protecting both the vehicle and the operator.

Check Your Equipment Before Use

Before positioning the skates, inspect their galvanised steel frames, rollers, lifting mechanism, and lifting bar for visible damage or wear. Confirm that the equipment is compatible with the vehicle's weight and tyre dimensions.

Never use damaged equipment or exceed the manufacturer's stated load limits.

Position the Skate Correctly

Place the self-jacking skate around the appropriate tyre according to the supplied instructions. Ensure that the equipment is correctly aligned and positioned on a flat, hard, and level surface.

Avoid uneven ground, slopes, loose gravel, or other unsuitable surfaces.

Lift the Wheel Carefully

Using the supplied lifting bar, operate the self-jacking mechanism as instructed to raise the vehicle wheel onto the rollers. Make sure the tyre is correctly supported before attempting any movement.

Keep hands and feet away from moving components and potential pinch points.

Move the Vehicle with Control

Once the vehicle is correctly supported using a suitable skate configuration, reposition it slowly and carefully. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for securing the vehicle and preventing uncontrolled movement.

Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by recovery skates.

Prioritise Safety Every Time

Correct positioning, regular inspection, and careful operation help make vehicle handling more manageable.

Whether you're working in a professional garage or maintaining a vehicle at home, following the manufacturer's safety instructions should always be your first priority.
